LHV warns against phishing e-mails

07.03.2024

LHV warns clients about phishing e-mails sent by fraudsters impersonating LHV Pank, and gives advice on how to recognise such e-mails. You should not open the scam e-mails nor click on the links contained therein. You most definitely should not enter your details on websites that are linked in the e-mails.

Right now, criminals are actively sending new phishing e-mails in the name of LHV. Although the LHV mobile app is free to use for all clients, the e-mail tries to get people to make a payment to use the mobile app. The e-mail stands out with its new type of problem as well as its more thought-out content. This is a good example of how the level of fraudulent e-mails is improving over time, making them increasingly more difficult to detect. The need for vigilance is constantly growing.

Clicking on the payment link in the e-mail can take an unsuspecting person to a fraudulent page that looks like a real banking channel. The information entered on this page is sent to criminals, and by confirming transactions with PINs, the criminals can gain access to the person’s real account.

Upon receiving a fraudulent e-mail, you should delete it and not click on any links in the e-mail. However, if a person has still entered their details or PINs for unwanted transactions, we ask them to contact LHV Customer Support as soon as possible.

Fraud prevention reminder:

  • Always keep track of the sender’s e-mail address. If the sender’s e-mail address does not end with @lhv.ee and differs from it by even one letter or punctuation mark, please be careful and do not enter your details.
  • If the content of the e-mail / SMS message / phone call seems even the least bit suspicious, for example, if it contradicts known information or is otherwise unusual, please call LHV Customer Support (+372) 6 800 400 or send an e-mail to info@lhv.ee to verify if this is indeed a message sent by LHV.
  • LHV will never send you links via SMS message. If you receive such an SMS message, please do not click on the link or enter your details.
  • When logging in to the Internet Bank, always make sure that it is the official banking channel of LHV. This is indicated by the proper URL with functioning links and an appropriate page, as well as the small green padlock symbol on the web browser’s address bar.
  • In the case of doubt, the safest thing to do is to type www.lhv.ee in the browser’s address bar yourself, rather than click on the link you have been sent, which looks similar but differs by some characters.
